Choir of Salisbury Cathedral
Choir
Salisbury Cathedral Choir is the principal choral ensemble of Salisbury Cathedral in Wiltshire, England, comprising 16 boy choristers, 16 girl choristers who share duties equally, and six adult lay vicars, dedicated to performing liturgical music for the cathedral’s daily offices and special services.
Established as part of the cathedral’s foundational traditions in the early 13th century, the choir upholds a heritage of sacred music that traces back to the relocation of the diocese from Old Sarum in 1219 and the laying of the cathedral’s foundations in 1220. With its repertoire spanning traditional Sarum Chant to contemporary sacred works, the choir sings Evensong daily during term time, as well as Eucharist and Mattins on Sundays, contributing to the cathedral’s role as a center for Anglican worship.
